Located at D’Youville University’s Health Professions Hub, our Food Farmacy acknowledges and addresses the intersection between hunger and health. This program is designed to improve the health of our vulnerable community members by providing access to nutritious food, personalized nutrition counseling, and other nutrition education services.
Our Food Farmacy is an innovative partnership that combines health services with food access. A registered dietitian from Catholic Health works with Sisters Health Center patients to provide education on proper nutrition and to assess their ongoing health relative to desired outcomes. All area residents and students who are in need are able to have access to the food pantry located within the same building.
The pantry provides whole grains, shelf-stable fruits, vegetables and proteins; as well as a variety of fresh, perishable foods to nourish patients of Sisters Health Center D’Youville, the university’s students and West Side community members in need.
Patients of Catholic Health’s Sisters Health Center, located on the first floor of the Health Professions Hub, are automatically screened for food insecurity and referred to FeedMore WNY for other Food Farmacy services, as appropriate. All community members are welcome to access the pantry and benefit from the Farmacy program.
The Food Farmacy is operating inside the University’s Health Professions Hub, at 301 Connecticut St., Buffalo, NY 14213. Patients of Catholic Health can talk with their doctor in the Sisters Health Center on the 1st floor to discuss nutrition counseling. The community can meet with the pantry representative on the third floor of the D’Youville Health Professions Hub to register for food pantry services. The food pantry is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There is no cost for services.
