Five Easy Ways To Respect Your Elders

Aging can be a challenging and oftentimes isolating process. For many clients of FeedMore WNY’s home-delivered meals program, the only person they may see in a day is their home-delivered meals volunteer. That’s why our home-delivered meal volunteers provide companionship in addition to delivering nutritious meals.

Fostering connections with our older community members is something that everyone can do. That’s why FeedMore WNY is proud to support Meals on Wheels America’s Respect Your Elders campaign, which aims to build empathy and compassion for our nation’s older adults.

Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

1.) Create a thank you card. Show a senior in your life how much you care by sending them a thank-you card. Meals on Wheels America has a customizable thank you card that you can download or share on social media. (Make sure to use the hashtag #RespectYourElders!)

2.) Sign up to become a home-delivered meal volunteer. FeedMore WNY needs more volunteers to help deliver food and friendship to our homebound neighbors in Erie and Niagara counties. We also offer Adopt-A-Route opportunities for groups and corporate partners!

3.) Perform a random act of kindness. Just one simple kind act can brighten the day of an older adult. Check out Meals on Wheels America’s list of ideas for how to get started!

4.) Make cards for FeedMore WNY’s home-delivered meal clients. FeedMore WNY gratefully accepts homemade cards to distribute to our home-delivered meal recipients. We deliver these cards for birthdays, holidays and simply to show we care! You can learn more about this program and sign up by visiting our Volunteer page.

5.) Help a senior in your life in need of food assistance. FeedMore WNY offers several programs to assist older adults facing food insecurity, including our home-delivered meals program, community dining services in partnership with Erie County, and Farm Market stops at area senior centers. If you have someone in your life who could benefit from our assistance, please direct them to our website. You can also call us at (716) 822-2002 to learn more about any of our programs.

Every action you take helps build support for our aging community members!
