food insecurity.
it can happen to anyone.

An estimated 17 million children are in families that struggle to put food on the table – a problem that has been magnified by COVID-19, job loss and business closings. But while food insecurity may not be on everyone’s mind, the reality is that losing a job or getting sick can happen to anyone.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), America’s largest anti-hunger program, was created to help those in times of crisis to afford the food their family needs, whether they are faced with a health emergency, a drought, a wildfire or economic recession. When hardships surface—SNAP supports.

how SNAP feeds those in need.

Together with hunger-relief organizations like FeedMore WNY—and the dedicated efforts of caring communities—SNAP provides financial support to help families put food on the table. But while SNAP will always be there for those in need, the program needs to be modernized to reflect rising food prices and what it costs to feed a family in 2022. Because SNAP benefits are still based on food preparation costs developed in 1975, the average benefit someone receives is just $1.40 per person, per meal.
