Volunteer Spotlight: Chuck C.

FeedMore WNY Front Desk Volunteer Chuck C. has centered much of his life around public service. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Chuck also worked for nearly three decades as a civilian employee for the Buffalo Police Department.

When Chuck retired, he knew he wanted to continue to serve the community as a FeedMore WNY volunteer. He forged a connection to FeedMore WNY’s mission after his mother began receiving home-delivered meals through FeedMore WNY’s Meals on Wheels services. “My mother had breast cancer and was in need of Meals on Wheels. The volunteers who delivered the meals were so kind and friendly that it touched me and my family very much. At that time, I promised myself that when I retired, I would pay it back,” Chuck said.

Though Chuck had originally planned on delivering meals, he discovered that FeedMore WNY had a variety of volunteer opportunities, and that his skill set and personality was perfect for FeedMore WNY’s front desk volunteer needs.

“I work the desk [at FeedMore WNY] with some of the friendliest, most kind, and compassionate FeedMore WNY employees and volunteers that one could ever meet,” he said. “They are focused not on the reason why a person needs help, but rather on how they can help during a person’s time of need. That, when seen in action, is very impressive and heartwarming.”

In addition to volunteering for FeedMore WNY, Chuck is a member of The Pub Social Club in South Buffalo, which holds frequent fundraisers to support the community (including a recent successful volleyball tournament to benefit FeedMore WNY).

“I am very proud, for so many reasons, to be able to tell my friends and family, especially my grandchildren, that I volunteer at FeedMore WNY,” Chuck said.
