Using Your RMD to Support FeedMore WNY

If you’re looking for a tax-smart way to support FeedMore WNY, consider making a gift through your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).

This type of planned giving allows you to give directly from your retirement account while reducing your taxable income. A Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) is the amount the IRS requires you to withdraw each year from certain retirement accounts once you reach a specific age. For many individuals, these withdrawals are taxable — but there is a way to use them to support causes you care about.

By making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), you can direct funds from your IRA to FeedMore WNY. This gift can count toward your RMD and may be excluded from your taxable income, offering potential tax savings while supporting our mission Individuals age 70½ or older may qualify to make a QCD, even if they are not yet required to take an RMD. Current guidelines also allow for significant annual giving through this method.

If you’re considering using your RMD to make a charitable gift, FeedMore WNY recommends speaking with a financial advisor or tax professional to determine what is best for your situation.
