More than just meal delivery
At FeedMore WNY, our home-delivered meals program is about more than just providing nourishments to our neighbors in need. Our program also provides wellness checks to our homebound clients to ensure their safety and well-being. This was made more evident when volunteers Renee and Dan quickly responded to a client who was in need. Their actions reflect kindness and the impact these checks have on our home delivered meals recipients.
On April 4, Renee and Dan went above and beyond during their meal delivery route. Upon arrival at a client’s home, they found her on the floor, injured and in distress after a fall. Without hesitation, Dan and Renee called 911. They then alerted their home-delivered meals site manager, who got in touch with our Social Work team. Thanks to their swift help, the client was able to get the medical attention she needed.
Dan and Renee’s actions demonstrate how our program is more than just delivering meals; it provides critical and lifesaving welfare checks for our clients.
“We don’t just give them meals,” Dan said, adding, “We check on their well-being. The people are always appreciative.”
Renee also added that she enjoys making connections with the clients.
“I like talking with the clients,” she said.
Reene enjoys getting to know the individuals on their routes and having conversations with them. These visits can serve as a consistent source of companionship for our clients. Oftentimes, the visit from their home-delivered meal volunteer may be a client’s only social interaction for the day.
We are so grateful and proud to have Renee and Dan as volunteers for our home delivered meal program. They are not only incredible and thoughtful volunteers, but they are a sibling DUO! The pair dedicates 4–5 days a week to our mission and that makes all the difference. Thank you both for being heroes!
