McKenzie’s story
Born and raised in Buffalo, McKenzie Higgins is an attorney for a large regional bank — and a lifelong volunteer.
Her path of service began more than 20 years ago as a young teen participating in Cheektowaga’s Youth Engaged Service and the Erie County Sheriff’s Explorer Program.
As an adult, McKenzie continued to answer the call to serve. She became a volunteer firefighter, supported the humane society, participated in turkey drives, and stepped in wherever she knew of a need.
McKenzie’s focus on food insecurity began while she was a student at Daemen University, when she volunteered at Rock Out Hunger, hosted by 97 Rock to benefit Western New York’s Food Bank. The experience left a lasting impression.
“It surprised me initially, how much fun you have. It doesn’t feel like work!” she says.
With the help of her family, McKenzie’s involvement grew. What started as donating single meals for families expanded into cases of food and turkeys whenever possible.
Today, McKenzie continues to dedicate her time and energy to FeedMore WNY. Her employer is recognizing her advocacy by donating $750 in honor of a new milestone in volunteer hours served.
“I’m all in,” McKenzie says. “2026 is the year of FeedMore for me!”
