Highmark Launches New (un)Hungry Initiative in Western New York
Highmark has launched (un)Hungry, a new community movement designed to address food insecurity during the holiday season, and FeedMore WNY is proud to be one of its partners. The holiday season is a time of generosity and (un)Hungry aims to channel that spirit into meaningful support for families who may be struggling to put food on the table.
This campaign ‘s goal is to raise awareness and provide both food and monetary donations during this time of year. Highmark has partnered with several food banks across its footprint, including FeedMore WNY to help ensure that our neighbors in need have access to the nutritious food. The effort began with volunteer events organized by Highmark team members, who wrote more than 600 heartfelt holiday notes to our home delievered meals recipients, many of whom are homebound.
The Highmark team also helped collect donated turkeys during the Buffalo Sabres’ Turkey for Tickets event. Along with this, Ice at Canalside will kicking off its winter season opening weekend on November 22, 2025 with a dedicated Day of Giving when indidvuals can bring nonparishable to ice skating that will benefit FeedMore WNY.
According to Feeding America, around 47 million people in the U.S. experience food insecurity. In Erie County alone, more than 126,000 residents, or 13.3% of the population, face challenges accessing enough nutritious food. Households with children are particularly affected, with rates nearing one in five both nationally and locally. This is why Highmark has dedicated this campaign to help our neighbors in need.
To help inspire that action, the (un)Hungry campaign also features an animated short film introducing Amethyst and her twin friends, Marc and Marq. See the video below:
