Statement from FeedMore WNY on passage of federal budget reconciliation bill

FeedMore WNY is deeply disappointed by the unprecedented cuts of nearly $200 billion to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the passage of the budget reconciliation bill.

These cuts come at a time when food insecurity is already on the rise throughout the nation – including right here in Western New York. Last year alone, nearly 166,000 individuals relied on FeedMore WNY for food assistance, which was a 16 percent increase from the prior year and a 46 percent increase over just three years. Slashing SNAP creates more challenges for thousands of our neighbors who were already struggling to put healthy food on the table and places greater pressure on FeedMore WNY and our tireless hunger-relief partners to meet the ever-growing need.

While the impact of this legislation is significant, FeedMore WNY remains steadfast in our mission to provide nutritious food, friendship and skills training to Western New Yorkers in need. We continue to work closely with our lawmakers and our partners in hunger relief to improve healthy food access for our neighbors of all ages. We look forward to the completion of our larger, unified campus to provide the needed capacity to alleviate food insecurity today and for generations to come.

We are endlessly grateful for the support of our Western New York community as we work together to offer dignity, hope and brighter futures for all.
