From Hardship to Helping Neighbors

After serving in the National Guard, Daniel returned to civilian life in Western New York. The transition would have been hard on its own, but he also endured the loss of his parents at the same time.

But even in his darkest times, when housing insecurity made every day uncertain, Daniel found a caring community and essential resources at Shiloh Baptist Church, a partner of FeedMore WNY. Their food pantry was a lifeline.

Now, he’s giving back by volunteering at the same food pantry — sharing the same support he once needed.

Daniel attended culinary school as a young adult before he joined the Army. Now, volunteering at the food pantry reminds him of his love for cooking and community.

In his volunteer role at Shiloh Baptist, Daniel says he’s seen the level of need increase recently, but the people he serves alongside, and the importance of the work, continue to inspire him.

“I’m just here to help as much as I can,” he says.

To the FeedMore WNY community of supporters, including you, Daniel says, “thank you very much.”

“It’s a night-and-day difference,” he adds, remembering his own experience. “Every donation helps — it really does.”
