Volunteer Spotlight: Mother and daughter duo provide food to neighbors across Western New York

Shauna and Trina Blake help provide nourishing meals across Western New York by volunteering with both our home-delivered meal program and food distribution network!

Shauna first started delivering meals through Adopt-A-Route teams at Kaleida Health and SASi’s day-hab program. After her retirement, she reached out to FeedMore WNY to continue delivering meals with her daughter. As residents of Derby, a perfect route was found at the nearby Angola home-delivery site, where there was a recent need for delivery volunteers.

Looking to help beyond only delivering meals, Shauna and Trina signed up to assist at our food distribution warehouse in Buffalo. Today, the mother and daughter duo support our community food programs three times each week, devoting time to both meal delivery and warehouse volunteering.

While their hard work makes an ongoing difference in the lives of those they serve, Shauna noted that she and her daughter receive something special in return.

“Even though we volunteer to help them, they care about us,” Shauna Blake said. She shared how a home-delivered meal client expressed concern when Blake didn’t wear a hat and gloves one winter day. “We’re developing relationships that show compassion and caring goes both ways,” she said.

Thank you for helping us provide dignity, hope and a brighter future to our Western New York neighbors!
