Strength Through Every Season

With three master’s degrees, Wendy built a career that combined her passions for teaching, animals and environmental education.

She created a zoo education program in Florida, organizing the first zoo educator’s association, hosting a televised zoo program and speaking at conferences about the environment.

Then, in 1982, Wendy faced a life-changing accident that left her with serious injuries and confined her to a wheelchair for eight years. After years of surgeries and treatment, a new medical procedure helped her regain her mobility.

Wendy returned to Western New York, where she spent the next 17 years caring for family members and serving as a community health advocate and caregiver.

Today, Wendy continues approaching each new challenge with determination. After undergoing a hip replacement, two knee replacements and recovering from a broken arm, everyday tasks like grocery shopping and cooking became difficult.

“I could barely feed myself, let alone shop for groceries and cook,” Wendy says.

That’s when Home-Delivered Meals became an important part of helping Wendy remain independent at home. Wendy has received meals on and off for the past eight years, using the program when she needs extra help and reducing services when her health improves.

Home-Delivered Meals from FeedMore WNY helps keep Wendy independent at home, where she can continue her career as community advocate and writer.

“I’m grateful to FeedMore for a better quality of life. I wouldn’t be able to stay in my home if it weren’t for FeedMore.”

As Wendy continues working to improve her mobility, she is also writing a book about her journey, titled Speed Bumps and Detours.
