Purring Paws donations make ‘pawsitive’ impact for FeedMore WNY’s AniMeals Program

For many pet owners, their animals are more than companions; they are family. FeedMore WNY’s AniMeals program nourishes pets of our home-delivered meal recipients by providing dog and cat food along with the clients’ meal deliveries.

The program began after learning some home-delivered meal recipients were sharing their meals with their pets because they were unable to access enough dog or cat food. Our home-delivered meals and AniMeals services help ensure everyone in the household is well-fed and taken care of – furry friends included.

FeedMore WNY relies on grants and donations from community partners to power the AniMeals Program. Within the past year, the incredible partnership of Purring Paws, a volunteer-led nonprofit, has made an incredible impact on our ability to serve home-delivered meal recipients and their pets.

Purring Paws is devoted to improving the lives of cats, explained Kara Houseknecht, one of the founders of Purring Paws. Houseknecht shared that every month, Purring Paws donates hundreds of pounds of cat food to support AniMeals, which makes it one of the largest donations they provide on a regular basis to support community-based animal welfare efforts. Since last November, Purring Paws has donated nearly 2,500 pounds of cat food to AniMeals.

FeedMore WNY Administrative Support Coordinator Joelle Roth, who oversees the AniMeals Program, described the partnership of Purring Paws as “invaluable.”

“I can’t even begin to describe how much it has helped us,” Roth said. “Thanks to their consistent donations, we have been able to stretch our funds for the AniMeals Program further. We have even been able to expand the AniMeals Program to serve even more pets of our Meals on Wheels participants.”

For Mike Cid, co-founder of Purring Paws, giving back has always been at the heart of the organization’s work.

“We are simply here to ensure every cat has a safe and loving home,” he said.
