Marta’s Move

Marta’s daughter, Ashley, recently moved from California to Western New York, seeking better schools for her three children and a more tight-knit community. When they arrived, the family moved in with Marta, who is taking time off work to recover from an injury.

While the family’s extended stay is more than welcome, Marta now has to pay close attention to what food is available in the house, especially with three growing children to feed. Marta’s husband’s income isn’t enough to cover the whole household of seven.

That’s why Ashley, Marta and Ashley’s youngest, Nicolas, 4, visit the Blasdell Community Church Pantry, a FeedMore WNY partner. There, they can choose from a variety of nutritious foods to fill the cupboards at home.

Nicolas loves picking out his own healthy snacks, while mom and grandma choose food items like fresh fruit and bread to bring home.

Ashley’s daughters, who are 5 and 11, are both adjusting well to their new schools. Nutritious food is essential as all three children continue to grow — and you help ensure it’s available.

“[I want to] thank those who help make this place run,” Marta and Ashley say, adding that everyone’s efforts, from volunteers to staff to donors, are appreciated.
