Lapsed SNAP Recipients can Re-Apply
SNAP recipients who lost their benefits earlier this year can now reapply as of October 1, 2026.
New York will begin a new three-year tracking period for SNAP work rules is part of a reset occurring once every three years for SNAP participants subject to the “Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents” (ABAWD) work rules.
SNAP recipients subject to ABAWD rules can only receive benefits for up to three months in a three-year period unless they document an exemption, live in an area with a waiver, or document sufficient work or volunteer hours. These rules apply to SNAP participants who are aged 18 to 64, do not have a disability and do not live in a household with a child under age 14.
Anyone who lost their benefits due to ABAWD rules can reapply to the program or ask to be re-added to an existing case if others in their household still receive SNAP.
