Volunteers honor 9/11 with Veterans Stand Down prep
Volunteers at FeedMore WNY spent the morning of September 11, 2026 honoring veterans by preparing special food bags ahead of their Veterans Stand Down event set for Sept. 25.
Volunteers came to our Holt Street location in Buffalo to fill 250 emergency food kits with peanut butter, rice, fruit cups, canned meat and other non-perishable food items that will later be given to veterans experiencing homelessness or those at risk of homelessness.
Aaron Tice, on-site volunteer coordinator, said volunteering makes our vital work happen.
“Our volunteers are extremely important and help get these projects completed,” Tice said. “If we didn’t have volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do for the community.
Today’s event is in recognition and partnership with Feeding America and marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, and is part of the broader national service effort connected to America250.
Lisa Kiec-Maliszewski is a long-time volunteer with FeedMore WNY, having helped us for almost seven years. She said she felt particularly compelled to volunteer on Sept. 11. Her father, father-in-law, and son are all veterans, with her son having just recently retired from the Army after 20 years of service and five deployments.
“It’s why I’m so excited,” Kiec-Maliszewski said.
She encouraged anyone looking for new volunteer opportunities to consider spending that time here at FeedMore WNY.
“If you come once, you’ll definitely come back,” she said. “The opportunities are endless. The organization does so much.”
