Good Food and Friendly Faces

For Kindu and Alysa, the community dining kitchen and food pantry at Response to Love Center offers more than nutritious food. It’s a place they’ve both come to value — one that became part of their routines in different ways.

Kindu has been visiting the pantry for several years. About a year ago, he began bringing food to Alysa, who later started visiting the pantry herself.

Today, the program helps Alysa and Kindu keep nutritious food on the table for their family while they prepare to welcome their new baby. While this is a high-risk pregnancy, they appreciate that they can get the food she needs to help stay healthy.

“This place helped me and my kids out a lot, especially when I was going through it,” Alysa says. “It saved me and my kids for sure.”

The pantry is more than a place to get fresh vegetables. It’s a welcoming place where Kindu and Alysa enjoy connecting with staff.

“I pick with all of them,” Kindu says of the staff. “Every time I come down here, I pick with everybody. You gotta have some fun all the time.”

Alysa appreciates the atmosphere, too.

“All the staff is wonderful,” she says.

For Kindu and Alysa, the pantry is a community where food, friendship and familiar faces come together.

“Don’t let this spot get shut,” Kindu urges.
