Good Community and Good Food

Mrs. Hargrove, 85, has called Buffalo home for 82 years. She remembers visiting the local Y with her friends as a child — the same Y she still visits today, and the same friends she still has lunch with at the Buffalo Urban League Center, a member of the FeedMore WNY hunger-relief network.

At the Buffalo Urban League Food Pantry, Mrs. Hargrove can enjoy meals in a comfortable community setting, surrounded by friends and neighbors from a lifetime of work, service and life in Buffalo.

“It means a lot to the community. Some people don’t have (enough), or can’t cook,” Mrs. Hargrove says of the food she enjoys.

Mrs. Hargrove has dedicated her life to serving Western New York. “I still do a lot of community work,” she says. “We all need help in some kind of way.”

A seasoned American Red Cross volunteer, she’s often one of the first people to respond to a disaster by distributing water and other essentials. At 85, she still dedicates her time and has no plans to stop!

FeedMore WNY provides both prepared foods and pantry items to Clemmon H. Hodges Senior Community Center, so the center can provide seniors and individuals in the neighborhood with a place to find what they need to sustain community wellness – nourishment and companionship.
