Help and hope in Niagara Falls Public Schools
Christa does all she can for her family. Yet it’s still difficult sometimes to fill the table for herself and her son, a senior at Niagara Falls High School (NFHS). Christa has lung disease, which makes some types of work and activity very difficult.
When Christa’s food benefit was cut, she realized she needed help. NFHS social workers were there to provide food access.
“They’re somehow always there when I need help.” she says.
Niagara Falls High School’s pantry, part of FeedMore’s hunger relief network, fights both hunger and the stigma that families often feel when facing hunger. Students can scan a QR code and confidentially ask the social work department for assistance. The food is packed up and ready for the student at the end of the day.
The high school also encourages parents to sign up for food pantry pick-up days through an app called “Remind.”
When a student is unable to take the food home, due to age, disability or distance, and the family doesn’t have the ability to pick it up, the district Family Resource Center delivers!
The Niagara Falls Public School System provides help and hope in every way it can for Christa and so many other students and parents.
