A Full Table for Matthew’s Family

Caring for family is one thing that our neighbor Matthew, 85, always prioritizes. “If there’s something I can do, I do it,” he says.

Nearly 25 years ago, Matthew built his house with his own two hands. There, he retired from work at a local steel plant. Now, he and his wife often host their many grandchildren in their beloved home.

During these family visits, Matthew and his wife set the table with nourishing meals made at the Cold Spring Community Foundation, a FeedMore WNY partner agency. “[The food] really comes in handy,” he says.

The meals Matthew receives from the foundation do more than just fill his grandchildren’s bellies. The food also helps Matthew’s wife maintain her health. After a breast cancer diagnosis, she underwent a double mastectomy and is now recovering from the operation.

The medical bills, on top of everyday expenses, make it difficult for Matthew to purchase enough nourishing food. Thankfully, the Cold Spring Community Foundation exists and FeedMore WNY provides support to ensure there is a steady source of good food to help make ends meet.
