Congressman Tim Kennedy hosts press conference at FeedMore WNY

Congressman Tim Kennedy joined us at FeedMore WNY’s warehouse on July 29 to discuss the recent funding cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the recently passed federal budget reconciliation bill. During his press conference, he emphasized the need to protect access to food assistance for families, seniors, and other individuals who rely on SNAP to meet their basic nutritional needs. He emphasized how local organizations like FeedMore WNY plays a critical role in responding to the increased food insecurity we have seen over the past few years.

“Food is not a luxury, it’s not a privilege – it’s a right. From seniors trying to stay in their homes to families needing to provide breakfast and lunch during the summer months, these are our neighbors, our friends, our family members,” he said.

SNAP serves as the first line of defense against food insecurity in the United States. Aid is distributed through an electronic card that can be used by those who are facing food insecurity at grocery stores and farmers markets to purchase nutritious food. SNAP supports a variety of community members, including seniors, families, and children. SNAP is designed to supplement a household income to ensure individuals avoid hunger.
