Training Brought Growth and Opportunity

In 2023, 2.8 million people had substance use disorders in New York State, according to the NYS Office of Addiction Service and Supports. Demario was one of them — but he was ready to enter recovery.

Needing vocational training for his rehab program, Demario chose FeedMore WNY’s RISE logistics and warehouse training program. That choice changed his life for the better.

“The people there became part of my family.” Demario shares. “They believed in me and made me want to try harder.”

Program participants learn vocational skills, earn valuable industry certifications and leave the program with the OSHA 10-hour General Industry completion card.

“The program…got me back into the community,” Demario explains.

RISE participants also receive transportation assistance, food access, financial literacy training, resume assistance and internship opportunities.

Demario is now employed at Lactalis North America, encouraged by Sal Bonfante, Assistant Director of Human Resources for Lactalis North America, who was a role model for Demario in the program. Now, he has health insurance, a 401k and financial independence.

At work, Demario is often recognized for his helpful and hardworking attitude — traits he says the RISE program helped him hone.

When asked if he had any advice to share, he said, “Keep FeedMore going!”
