Billboard advertisement supports capital campaign, includes local artist’s work

Delaware North has created a billboard advertisement to further its support for FeedMore WNY’s capital campaign to build a new, centralized headquarters in Hamburg.

The billboard, located at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Chippewa Street in the City of Buffalo, also features “Fireflies,” an artwork created by Iris M. Kirkwood.

The advertisement will be displayed on the billboard through Sunday, May 12.

Kirkwood is a Buffalo-born, African American artist and draftsperson who creates visual narratives. “Fireflies” was created using pastel, colored pencil, pencil and correction fluid on watercolor paper.

A self-proclaimed “student of life,” Kirkwood works with the theme of emotion and believes that people interpret the world through their feelings.

By mixing elements of the short story – setting, character, and point of view – with color and line, she creates stories of the little moments in life, like joy, love, hate jealousy, awe and pathos.

Her work has been exhibited in the Western New York region, as well as in galleries throughout the east coast.

Kirkwood’s work was also featured in a group exhibit at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, which acquired her pastel drawing, RITUAL, for the museum’s collection.
